Many owners of classic cars would like their vehicle to look both as appealing and as authentic as possible. To this end, they also require tyres that are suitable - both visually and technically. Even if the tyres are not yet worn out, users should replace them every eight to ten years, as the material becomes brittle after this period of time.
Suitable tyres for classic cars
If your classic car is not yet too old, you will find details regarding suitable tyres in the vehicle papers. In the case of older models, searching with the vehicle manufacturer, in special Internet forums, or our tyre configurator can help. Some manufacturers also reissue classic tyre models for popular classic cars. However, because these are only produced in small series, and often by hand, these tyres are generally more expensive than other models.
Whereas on the first cars, beaded edge tyres with a tube and cover were still used, these were replaced by diagonal tyres in the 1940s. A little later, the now standard radial tyres – also known as belted tyres – began their triumphant ascent. These are much superior to other tyre types with regard to both performance and safety. Nowadays special classic tyres are the first choice for classic cars, which excel both on account of their classic look, and also due to their impressive drive properties, specifically tailored to the vehicle class. So-called white-wall tyres are popular for classic cars. Here, one side of the tyre is either fully or partially white.
